SNL To Lose Four More Top Cast Members!

three great snl guys leavin

This is a topic I wanted to talk about for a while, but work and life got in the way, so I’m only able to write about it now. It was announced earlier this year that Bill Hader is leaving SNL, which is a huge hit for the show seeing as the year before they lost Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg. Losing Hader is bad enough, but just a few days after he announced that he was leaving, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis also announced that they would be leaving too, oh and add in Seth Myers leaving in December and SNL looks very different now.

With many of those guys leaving Kenan Thompson and Bobby Moynihan are the most senior people on SNL. They are the last of a group that helped SNL become a relevant show on NBC and at night. Yes it wasn’t like the early years with people like Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Bill Murray, and Dan Aykroyd making many people laugh and tuning in every week to see more. It wasn’t like the late 80’s/early 90’s where names like Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Chris Rock, John Lovitz David Spade and Adam Sandler would become stars in their own right.

SNL would hit hard times in the early 2000’s, but with aid from guys like Andy Samberg and his highly popular SNL Shorts made a huge splash for the show and the fans wanted more. People like Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig would do anything you’d ask them too and add in Armisen, Sudeikis, Myers and company and you would usually have a great show. Losing Myers will be a very hard hit to the show, not only do they lose their Weekend Update host, they also loose their head writer and that will be a hard pair of shoes to fill.

Lorne Michaels will have to tread lightly now, ratings could plunge and they could start losing money again which of course NBC and the SNL really don’t want that to happen. As long as they look for top-notch talent and try their best when looking for new talent, they might be able to find another Wiig, Hader, or Samberg etc. As one of Andy’s characters (Nick Cage) would say “that’s high praise,” I really enjoyed watching all of them together they had great chemistry and knew how to make us laugh. Heck sometimes even they made themselves laugh, while live on Saturday night.

I really hope for Lorne’s sake that he is able to find the right new people to compliment with the current cast he is left with and is able to knock their socks off. For now we’ll have to wait and see how SNL will do without all these popular names gone, I say good luck to them for that, especially since I felt it was a bit weaker without Kristen and Andy. By losing four more people it could be really hard to fill all these big shoes from SNL.

Its safe to say we’ll miss characters like Stefon, Mitt Romney, Obama (Armisen version), Weekend Update with Seth Myers and all the funny characters that all these actors played. I end this blog by saying this thank you to Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis, Seth Myers and the rest for some great laughs and please continue trying to make us laugh. Next blog coming out will most likely be another sports blog so check back soon, thanks for reading!

  1. I have faith in SNL. The track record speaks for itself. Any show that has been running for (correct me if I’m wrong) about 30 years, by the same person, does not owe its success to individual cast members, but rather the ability of the people who run the show who cast the right people for the job. There are tons of hilarious young comedians who would kill for a chance to be on SNL. I have faith that Lorne will find them it is HIS talent for finding stars that has made SNL such a success.
